International Speaker
In Terry's Own Words . . . Frequently Asked Questions

After hearing Terry Watson speak, or after participating in one of his classes for the first time, people often ask, “Terry, why haven’t I ever heard of you before now?”

His standard answer is, “Believe it or not, I’ve never advertised!”

Terry has had the wonderful opportunity, though, to address thousands of executives and REALTOR® members over the years through frequent speaking engagements and teaching sessions held at the NATIONAL ASSOCIATION OF REALTORS® Annual Convention and Exposition, and the Midyear Business Meetings. He has also worked with audiences abroad in Mexico and South America.

Terry says he feels most fortunate because his marketing method -- word-of-mouth advertising -- has taken on a life of its own, and he finds that it still works better than any traditional marketing methods.

For instance, odds are that you’re visiting his Web site right now because you’ve heard about him from someone else. Please thank that person and thank YOU for taking the time to check out this site. Since you’re already here, please stay and for as long as you want to learn more about how Terry Watson can help you provide top-notch seminars in a unique and exciting way!

This page features answers to questions Terry most frequently hears when he is out in the field. Hopefully, they will help you to better understand his work, his goals, and his background.

Q: Who are some of the audiences you’ve addressed?

Most recently, the NATIONAL ASSOCIATION OF REALTORSŪ (NAR) staff in Chicago, Illinois and Washington, D.C. Upon request, I designed and delivered an up-to-date, informational, and interactive course for staff that describes and provides insight into who and what a REALTORŪ does. This “Getting to Know NAR Members” class is required for all new NAR employees and I teach it on a quarterly (or as requested) basis. So far, these courses have received rave reviews from participants. NAR is pleased with the results. In 2002, I instructed for state and local associations, I offered broker training, and a real estate commission instructors’ workshop.

In addition, private companies and organizations hire me to teach Leadership, Sales, Negotiation, Motivation and to deliver Keynote Speeches at conventions and meetings.

Q: What makes YOU so different from all other industry speakers?

A: I have the ability to relate to executives and leaders through different teaching techniques, my active sales and life experiences, and my love for training. The average sales professional is around 50 years old, while a typical buyer is around 30 years old. This means that salespeople are getting younger and younger, and that salespeople have more demanding educational needs than their predecessors. I can meet those needs and bridge this “gap” between salepeople and their clients, because a typical buyer is a “Gen-Xer”, and so am I, but I have the industry knowledge and experience of a seasoned professional.

I conduct seminars the way my audience participants want to learn. I try to address all learning styles and I take into consideration the different types of personalities, ages, backgrounds, and goals that I encounter among students in my audiences. I believe that today’s executives and salespeople, who probably grew up watching countless hours of television, are now experiencing “sensory overload” because they are bombarded with things like “inputs”, Palm Pilots, two-way pagers, and cell phones, not to mention a plethora of technological information. Because our information society can be overwhelming to many, today’s programs must be simple, yet rock-solid, based on current content. At the same time, they should be highly visual, entertaining, energetic, participative, and memorable to the point where those light bulbs go off in participants’ head.

Q: Do you ever do motivational speaking?

A: Yes. Another advantage of my high-energy presentation style is that I can easily formulate new seminars based on sound principles. Due to my ability to connect with the audience, many companies, organizational leaders, and schools have hired me to inspire and motivate their populace.

Q: You have said that you teach ABR classes. What qualifies you to do this?

A: I am one of a few ABR Senior Instructors who not only teach all of the REBAC courses, but is also certified to train ABR instructors. I conducted the ABR Instructor Training during the NAR Midyear Business Meetings, which certifies ABR instructors to teach New Home Sales and Relocation courses. I administered the ABR Instructor Certification for the ABR and E-Buyer in overseas Sao Paulo, Brazil, and here in the States in Georgia. Most recently, I’ve been asked to conduct an ABR instructor training session in Peru. I also taught the ABR instructor certification course for personal assistants at the Real Estate Educators Association. I continue to teach (and have taught) every ABR course, plus every elective.

Q: Do you travel to other countries to speak and teach?

A: Yes. I’ve conducted seminars in Costa Rica and Brazil and have been asked to teach in Australia, Mexico, Peru, and Canada.

Q: Do you teach LTG (Leadership Training Graduate) classes?

A: Yes. I am a WCR instructor and can teach all courses offered by the Women’s Council of REALTORS®.

Q: What other designation courses do you teach?

A: I can teach every single course offered by REBAC, Women’s Council of REALTORS®, GRI and Certified Finance Specialist courses, Introduction to International Real Estate, and the SRES designation course.

Q: Do you conduct any other seminars that are not listed on his Web site?

A: Yes. I constantly add to and help develop new seminars that benefit an array of organizations.

Q: What makes your seminar content and delivery unique?

A: First, all of my seminar content and materials are completely flexible. Depending on the audience and venue, I tailor each seminar to their needs. Second, I am passionate about topic, and that passion is felt among my attendees. Third, I love training so much that I try to engage each and every attendee in the learning process. Therefore, executives say they walk away from my seminars with a fresh perspective and a renewed appreciation and understanding of the topic at hand.

Q: Do you teach an instructor development workshop?

A: Yes, one of the most frequent requests I receive is for instructor training.

Q: Do you ever teach at real estate offices?

A: Yes, I have often been asked to address the professionals of national franchises and independent firms.
